  What is Building Green?

Difference between LEED & GBI

There are two main differences between the LEED-H and GBI certification programs. Imagine two identically built homes on the same street, using the same products, methodology and materials being constructed by the same builder. The difference between certifying one home LEED-H and the other GBI is the cost. A LEED-H certified home can cost an additional $1,000.00 for the third-party verification that is required by LEED-H to be performed by a certified LEED provider.

The second, and potentially much larger cost, lies in the cost of meeting each of the program’s thresholds for certification. To view the GBI checklist click here. To view the the LEED-H checklist click here.

Each checklist provides a road map for individual homeowners to follow in determining where to invest their money and how green they want their home to be. Remember, when building green or shopping for paint, you have many shades of green to choose from!
